92-year-old Madison community member Sarah Wells, a 2007 participant of the UW Odyssey Project, received her diploma from Madison College on Thursday, May 23rd. The UW Odyssey Project offers UW humanities courses to adult students who face economic barriers and obstacles to college, such as homelessness, incarceration, single parenthood, depression, and domestic abuse. Wells notes that she was inspired to earn her degree after a conversation with Department of African American Studies Professor, Sandra Adell, in which Adell told Wells “it was never too late” to return to school. Wells and Adell met through the UW Odyssey Project’s newest initiative, Odyssey Senior, a free, five-week course designed for students over 55.
