Reverend Alex Gee will receive honorary degree

Reverend Dr. Alex Gee, a UW-Madison alumnus and lifelong community advocate for change, will be conferred the honorary doctorate of humane letters at the spring 2024 commencement ceremony. Reverend Dr. Gee will be recognized for his outstanding community work pursuing equity in the state of Wisconsin.

Rev. Dr. Gee is the Lead Pastor of Fountain of Life Church, the president and founder of the Nehemiah Center for Urban Leadership Development, and the founder of the Justified Anger initiative. He is the author of two books: When God Lets You Down: Trusting Again After Pain and Loss and Jesus & the Hip-Hop Prophets: Spiritual Insights from Lauryn Hill and 2Pac. Gee hosts the podcast Black Like Me. Gee was honored with the City of Madison’s Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Humanitarian Award in 1994 and recognized for his “Outstanding Contributions to the Community” by the Madison Community Foundation.

The commencement ceremony will be held on Friday, May 10 at 5:30pm at the Kohl Center.
