Dr. Melanie Herzog will be giving a lecture at the Art Institute of Chicago titled: “My Two Peoples”—Elizabeth Catlett’s Activism in Mexico.
Abstract: Elizabeth Catlett forged a powerful artistic practice—merging politically charged printmaking and empathetic sculpture—to champion the lives, struggles, and shared experiences of African American and Mexican communities she called “both my peoples.”
