Alumni Update: Rayna Cunningham
The Department of African American Studies is pleased to share that Rayna Cunningham (African American Studies certificate graduate and 2025 Tom Shick Award recipient) has committed to attending the University of Illinois College of Medicine, at the Rockford Campus. We look forward to witnessing Cunningham’s growth in the medical field.
“My African American Studies certificate constantly informs my Neurobiology major,” Rayna shared in 2024. “I want to serve patients of color and I want to go into dermatology. Its a field that could use a lot of Black physicians. I want to improve the education around melanated skin so people can better understand the different presentations of skin diseases.”
